My family and our dog have been going to Turon Gates regularly now for over twenty years. I absolutely love it! It’s a bush retreat close enough to get away for a few days but far enough to leave the hustle and bustle of the city far behind.
It’s just three hours drive out of Sydney on the road from Lithgow to Mudgee… just past Capertee.
Where you turn left and do fifteen kilometres of good dirt road to arrive at Turon.
We‘ve stayed nearly everywhere there from the rustic river cabins to the more fancy mountain cabins. I’m not much of a camper myself but the campsites there are stunning right on the riverbank.
Each cottage location affords complete privacy and stunning outlooks over the rolling countryside or over the tranquil river. Sonya makes a mean cappuccino if you would like to drop in and Soren has many stories about the history of the area, the gold rush era and the historic Chinese walls throughout the property.
But if you just feel like being alone, the nice thing about Turon Gates is that you never need to see anyone.
There’s so much to do there from bushwalking, horse riding, swimming, canoeing, lying in the hammock and reading a book to just sitting by the fire and having a wine. It’s my slice of heaven.
For us it is absolute bliss. We call it recharging the soul with nature.
Nothing can beat that! If you are up for a few quiet days away check it out at https://www.turongates.com
